Frequently Asked Questions

In an effort to provide you with as much information as possible, you will find answers to frequently asked training and application development questions below.

If you can't find the answer you're looking for please contact us.

Q. We know we need training, but we're not sure what we need or where to start. Can you help?

A. Absolutely. We provide complementary needs analysis forms that help us to pinpoint your specific requirements. We can also provide document analysis to make sure you get the training you need to do the job. Our goal is to make sure you get the training you need and, just as importantly, don't waste time learning things you will never use.

Q. What teaching style/methods can we expect?

A. We deliver "stand-up teach" training that is interactive and stimulating, ensuring that participants look forward to their training sessions. Most courses include practice exercises to reinforce what the attendees have learned. We are very flexible in terms of adjusting the course content "on the fly" if requested and approved, and in answering any questions that the participants bring to class.

Q. What training materials are included?

A. Customized course outline · Customized course notes · Practice exercises · Training certificate · Post training support via email or telephone

Q. Do you offer basic, intermediate and advanced level courses?

A. Yes, we do. However, for the most part we provide a mix of a variety of levels, depending on our clients' needs, which makes the training more relevant and effective.

Q. We would like training that is based on our own applications/files. Is that possible?

A. Absolutely. Very often, application-specific training is exactly what is required and we strongly encourage it.

Q. How many participants do you train at a time? Is there a minimum number of participants?

A. While there is no minimum number, we strongly suggest a maximum of 6 - 8 participants. This ensures that the attendees get the attention they deserve, are not as hesitant to ask questions, and the pace doesn't get slowed down.

Q. Where will the training take place?

A. Most of our clients prefer on-site training so their employees don't have to travel.  However, we do provide training at our offices in Ottawa and Montreal (for our locations, please click here).  We also offer on-line training and support delivered over the Internet in real time with live instruction.

Q. How long is each training session?

A. We recommend a maximum of between 3 and 4 hours per session to avoid "information overload". We also recommend at least 1 day between sessions so that attendees can put into practice what they've learned, and usually no more than 2 sessions per week so that they are not thinking about the work that is piling up at the office.

Q. Do you offer crash courses?

A. No, we do not. This type of training is ineffective and results in a very low return on investment, so we don't believe it is in our clients' best interest.

Q. Your courses are customized. Does that mean they cost more?

A. Our philosophy is to give our clients quality training that is relevant to their needs, as opposed to rigid, level-based training. We do not charge more for this service.

Q. What if we have questions after the training?

A. Post training support via email or telephone is included. Please see our Support page for more details.

Q. What if we need to cancel or postpone a training session?

A. Postponement Policy: There is no penalty for postponement of a training session or a decrease in the number of attendees 5 business days or more prior to the scheduled training date; 50% fee will be applied 2 - 4 business days prior to the training date; a 100% fee will be applied 1 business day or less prior to the training date.

Cancellation Policy: No refund will be issued once a multi-session training is underway; cancellation at that point will result in a credit of the balance of hours remaining to be used within 4 months of the cancellation date.

Q. Do you offer bilingual training?

A. Training materials and principal delivery are provided in the language of the software, however it is our pleasure to communicate with our clients in English or French.

Q. What if we don't have enough computers?

A. We provide laptop computers at a reasonable extra charge.

Q. Do you offer online training for our remote offices?

A. Yes, we do. You may also consider online training so that employees from different offices, whether remote or not, can benefit from training at the same time. This also cuts down on travel time and expense.

Q. Can you help me to understand and improve an Excel file or Access database that I 'inherited' from someone else?

A. Yes. This is a common occurrence with which we are very experienced.

Q. Can you help us create an Access database?

A. Yes, we can either provide training and then help you to get your database up and running, or we can create a database for you. We will meet with you to determine your needs and what the final products are that you require, after which we will create the structure required, including tables and their relationships, queries, forms, reports, etc. and bring you to the point of a "live" database. We do not provide data entry.

Q. I need to create a PowerPoint presentation for an upcoming meeting. I don't want to take a course; I just want someone to make it look professional for me. Do you do that?

A. Yes, we can work with you to create the look and feel you want, along with tips for making a professional-looking presentation.

Q. Can you create macros for us to automate some of our tasks?

A. We can create simple macros, or more complex ones using the Visual Basic Editor in order to automate processes and help you become as efficient as possible.

Q. There has to be a faster way to do what we're doing. Can you analyze what we're doing and help us to streamline?

A. This is something we hear often. You're great at what you do, but need an expert to analyze how you are using the tools that get the job done. We can help you to eliminate wasted time and frustration and to master the software you're using so that you can focus on delivering value to your employer.

Q. We'd like to provide our employees with standardized templates. Can you create these for us?

A. We can work with you to make sure your templates have a professional and standardized look, which enhances your corporate image, ensures that "the wheel isn't being reinvented" by different employees, and provides users with the tools they need to get their work done more efficiently and easily.

Q. Can you create forms that can be filled in on a computer?

A. Absolutely. This is something that cuts down on wasted paper and makes information gathering much easier.

Q. I spend too much time hunting for files and emails. Can you help me clean up my files and create easy-to-navigate filing systems?

A. Being organized means you're not wasting time/money constantly looking for something. We will discuss how you work and which organization scheme makes sense and then create a system that is easy to use and maintain.
