Major Time Saver - Remove Excel Data, But Keep Formatting, Formulas and Links

By Deborah J. Sparks

QUESTION:

"How do I copy a file while maintaining the format, all the formulas and links but delete the existing data to start fresh?"

ANSWER:

Select the cells that don't contain formulas and clear them. Here's how:

  1. Activate the sheet(s)
  2. Click the Edit menu, GoTo option (F5 function key or Ctrl + G are the shortcut keys)
  3. Click the Special button, select the Constants option and click OK
  4. You can now delete the cell content (or modify formatting, change protection properties, etc.)

Note: You can also select only cells containing formulas, blank cells and more from the same dialog box.
