Open Recently Used MS Office Files or Folders

By Deborah J. Sparks

Tired of navigating to recently used files or folders? Follow the steps below to speed things up:

Office 2010

  • Open a recently used file: Click the File tab and select a file or a folder from the Recent list.
  • Pin a file or folder to the list: Click the Pin icon to the right of the file name in the list. The file or folder will remain at the top of the list and will only eventually drop off the list when it is unpinned.

TIP:  Add the Recent button to the Quick Access Toolbar to open the recent list even faster.

Office 2007

  • Open a recently used file: Click the Office button and select a file from the Recent Documents list.
  • Pin a file to the list: Click the Pin icon to the right of the file name in the list. The file will remain in the list and will only eventually drop off the list when it is unpinned.
